A third Iqbal conference was organized as 2nd International Conference on Iqbal 2021 convened by the Iqbal Chair Bahria University, with the support of the Iqbal Academy Pakistan, Riphah International University, Educational Resource Development Center (ERDC), Golden Harvest, J7 Icon, and Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS) on 9, 10 and 11 November 2021. The objective of this conference was to actively explore Iqbal’s philosophical and practical guidance through academic exercise and to investigate ways for its implementation in different domains of an Islamic state. The ultimate objectives of the conference were to share experiences, inspire people, build networks and lead towards practical implementation of Iqbal’s vision in youth education and development. It was also attempt to develop realization among the stakeholders of the importance and viability of Iqbal’s message for personal and community development. This conference was an endeavor to find solutions to the ailments of Muslim Ummah in light of Iqbal’s Qur’anic thought and his philosophy of Khudi.

Iqbal’s multidimensional wisdom: His vision for social, scientific and technological revival of the Ummah
The conference ran in five tracks: Humanities & Social Sciences, Law, Psychology, Leadership & Management, and Science & Technology. The events were organized a day each at Bahria University Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore campuses. The inaugural and closing essions were conducted at Islamabad campus. The sessions at each campus to be shared with other campuses via Live BUTV and VLC.
The Conference intended to stimulate discussions among the broader social sciences community about the role we can play in practical implementation of Iqbal’s philosophy. It was an endeavor to share experiences, inspire people, build networks and lead towards practical implementation of Iqbal’s vision in youth education and development.
Participation
Young and brilliant researchers, eminent scholars and talented students from Bahria as well as other universities and outside enthusiastically participated in the conference. A number of national and international speakers enlightened the audience with their scholarly views and panel discussions on the topics related to Iqbal and Pakistan. The conference proceedings were carried out through various scientific-sessions and plenary lectures. The conference was embarked with an opening session a BUIC followed by four track sessions at the three campuses, parallel online scientific sessions, and lastly the concluding session at the Islamabad campus.
Bahria University Islamabd, Lahore and Karachi campuses participated fully in the conference and also through Live Facebook and VLC transmissions of all the sessions.
The conference was marked by the attendance of young and brilliant researchers, eminent scholars and talented students from Bahria as well as other universities, who have driven this event into the path of success. There were over 138 research abstracts received from all over Pakistan and other countries, representing different universities, civil society, academia and the private sector. This was a gigantic event with on-capmus seminal sessions during the three days and parallel running 13 online scientific sessions followed by concluding session. These invigorating seminar sessions were attended by people from all walks of life which had more than 40 speakers, out of which 11 were international speakers.
Outcomes and results
The conference served as a platform for sharing experiences of Iqbal’s study and his personal life at different levels, from debates by famous personalities who are affiliated with Allama Iqbal’s philosophy. The main outcome of the conference was to influence youth by acquainting them with Iqbal’s ideology through various means like speeches, panel discussions, paper presentation and presentation of Iqbal’s poetry as Kalam and stage play.
The distinguished guests shared brilliant insights to Iqbal’s philosophy and work. The sessions conducted were thought provoking and shed light on multiple facets of human life pertaining to social, economic, scientific and technological aspects. Conference also brought together ambassadors of Turkey, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Diplomats from Iran to collaborate in celebrating and spreading Iqbal’s message at both national and international level. The conference organizers are indebted to the Ambassadors of brother Islamic nations for being part of this conference and thus giving the feeling of Pan Islamism to celebrate the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who’s Qur’anic philosophy is equally received and valued in these great Islamic countries and many other Islamic nations.
The key focus of the speeches and discussions in the entire conference was the practicality of Iqbal’s message for the present times. The speakers discussed the various aspects of Iqbal’s ideology relevant to our education system. The conference would hopefully serve as a beacon of guide for all. The conference highlighted several pertinent issues that needed to be analyzed and dissected. This conference was a small effort by Bahria University to initiate an enlightening discourse with many more to follow Insha’Allah! We are overwhelmed by the response of all the esteemed guests, knowledgeable speakers and enthusiastic students and audience.
